The home study is an integral part of any adoption process. Social workers have the critical task of completing this comprehensive assessment, in a way that takes into account the strengths and needs of each prospective family. In addition, these professionals have the responsibility of guiding the education and training of families, so that they can best support an adopted individual. From discussions around special needs or previous trauma, to race and culture- there are a myriad of areas where preparation is critical. In order to do all of this well, we must examine the best practices that undergird the home study assessment.
